Challenge VI-Roots:
Insights & Inspirations in Contemporary Turned Objects
February 6, 2004 to April 23, 2004
Philadelphia, USA: The Wood Turning Center is proud to present Challenge VI-Roots: Insights & Inspirations in Contemporary Turned Objects an exhibition of forty-three established and emerging international artists who are redefining sculptural form. In February, the traveling art exhibition, after a 3-year tour, makes its final stop at the Wood Turning Center as well as simultaneously being displayed at the Wexler Gallery in Old City and The Mills at East Falls.
The exhibition includes trends and techniques in contemporary lathe-turned woodwork. Including a variety of turning techniques and uncommon combinations of materials and finishes, forty-three artists are represented in the exhibition. The Wood Turning Center's Challenge exhibitions continue to be an outlet for both well known and emerging lathe artists to display some of the most dynamic functional and sculptural work in contemporary art.
The exhibition features works by such nationally and internationally acclaimed artists as:
Michael Brolly, Robyn Horn, Jack Larimore, Christian Burchard, Satoshi Fujinuma, Connie Mississippi, Binh Pho, Merryll Saylan, Mark Sfirrri, Gordon Ward, and more. A full color catalogue is available.
