A signature annual event for the Center, the resident fellows are spending
eight weeks working and living together during the summer of 2003 at the
University of the Arts in Philadelphia. This is the ninth consecutive year
that the Center has offered this program. Each year four lathe artists, one
furniture maker/educator, one scholar and one photojournalist from around
the world are selected to join the program.
The 2003 ITE Resident Fellows are:
Eli Avisera, Lathe Artist, Israel
Kevin Burrus, Lathe Artist, USA
Mark Hancock, Lathe Artist, Wales
Ron Kanter, Photojournalist, USA
Alexandra Alevizatos Kirtley, Scholar, USA
Thierry Martenon, Lathe Artist, France
Jamie Russell, Furniture Maker, Canada
Presently in their fifth week, the next three weeks focus on intensive
hands-on studio work as well as an Open Community Day that will take place
on Sunday July 20, 2003. The Open Community Day 2003 is an opportunity to
spend the day with the ITE residents in their workshop as they demonstrate
their skills and discuss their work. A $15 fee includes lunch and
registration information is available through www.woodturningcenter.org
The Open Community Day is presented by the Wood Turning Center, University of
the Arts, and local chapters of the American Association of Woodturners:
Bucks Woodturners, Keystone Woodturners, and Lehigh Woodturners.
Please also join us for the annual International Turning Exchange Opening
and Conference concluding the 2003 ITE residency program. Events will
include the allTURNatives: Form & Spirit opening. This exhibit of the
objects and statements produced by the ITE residents, and photos and a film depicting the ITE experience will be shown at the Wood Turning Center in Philadelphia. This exhibition, entitled allTURNatives: Form & Spirit, opens Friday August 1, 2003 (a First Friday Event!) and will tour to several other venues around the USA.
In conjunction with the exhibit opening, an Exhibition Conference will take
place on Saturday August 2, 2003. Held in conjunction with The Wood Turning
Center's Annual Meeting, this is an opportunity to learn more about the ITE
program as the resident fellows present and discuss their work. The day's
activities also include an Old City Scavenger Hunt (Participants are encouraged to explore Old City Galleries in search of lathe art. The owner of the first completed hunt list receives a sampling of Wood Turning Center Publications. A $100 value!) and a Banquet (information will be sent upon registration).
Registration is required and more information is available at
