"When the possibility of six months in Western Australia became apparent, I welcomed the opportunity to leave my old life behind for a while and to experience a relatively isolated part of this huge continent. Australia gave me breathing space...I am aware now that the Australian bush symbolized a number of things to me, all intangible and powerful -- nature, instinct, beauty, sanctuary, the primal, the non-rational, and the mysterious. These bowls encompass this world, forms push forward from the walls, vital and vivid, as if they were carrying life energy, the sustaining spirit. They serve as affirmations of survival, growth and connection."
